The end the journal! [01 Aug 2004|10:17pm]
Day 25 Angsty teen day

I wore all black for angsty teen day and black eyeliner. I felt so awkward walking to class. I was just thinking, "I really don't dress like this I promise" the whole time. I bet I was judged, er, angsed numerous times. We had a question and answer session for the DMD program at Penn. It's so perfect cuz it combines CS and animation and 3D modeling, but the downside is that it trains ppl to become technical directors..? and i want to be a part of the art/concept stuff..Then we had to go to another question and answer but it was for everyone in the summer program. The RC's basically told us to apply EA, since we did the program we have dibs, and that the administration still has no organization skills. After dinner I went back to work on modeling a person, even though Leonora gives me those skeptical looks. I really had nothing better to do. The security guard was rather talkative today. He told me to watch Finding Nemo...meh? Molly just told me that she had confused Oregon with Ohio when she told me Oregon was near Michigan. It's so weird, people here don't know where Oregon is and they've never learned about the Oregon Trail. Amy W thought Oregon was near the East coast...and people here actually do pronounce it as Ore-gone. So strange. Oh, and nobody's heard of the term 'freak dancing' The east coast equivalent would be 'grinding.'

Day 26 Not-superhero day

Superhero day kind of fell through, and that's all I have to say about that. We had ANOTHER lecture in art today about portfolios, however the architecture teacher mostly talked about architecture. Scott was asked to speak but was the funniest thing cuz he talked about nothing. Oh Scott, we love him. I finally got to see Brendan's corn on the cob dance but he wouldn't do it again for me to film. poo.
I don't have any cash so when Maddie toldy we needed exact change for the trip to her house in Jersey, I immediately ran to the Bookstore to Wawa's to the Bookstore hoping I could buy something and get cash back. But alas, those cashiers are all cold and heartless and wouldn't spare a dime. It sucks having money but not being able to use it when I need to use it. I got back to the art building dejected, flushed, and frustrated that I couldn't get friggin cash off my credit card. I still owe people money. Anyway, Maddie ended up helping me pay for the fare. On the train ride, Alex had me draw in her sketchbook. This is the first time I've ever done an art trade, though Alex has yet to draw me a picture. Grace is drawing me a picture of punk/goth/ Cloud. I drew Kona...Maddie has a really beautiful house. I used the bathroom and got confused as to how to dry my hands because the towels were linen/fabric material and there were napkins right next to them... Dinner was really good. We had corn, which led to Alex making a real life corn on the cob Brendan. It was hilarious. We eventually got to ironing on Brendans to our shirts. Unfortuanately we had to leave before our shirts were done so most of them went to Grace to finish them. We're all wearing the shirts tomorrow.

Day 27

Grace gave me my Brendan/animation shirt. I immediately noticed that something was wrong when I saw the 4 in 2004 completely smodged. Ah well, I don't hate you Grace, I'm just very disappointed...jk During lunch I had a fortune cookie and Alex said that it was like Helen Keller except more disabled. I don't know why but I found that very funny. I talked to Julie today and she said stuff about portfolios that I had speculated about like getting recommendations from her that might affect my admissions...I'm feeling rediculously rushed right about now. I did another art trade, this time with Grace. Grace, Alex, and I ate dinner at Chili's. -us and our shirts
Tonight was the semiformal, which I forgot...but I remembered and since I had gone through so much trouble in finding a dress I figured I had better put it on. I really looked awkward in that pale pink, yes pink. Molly and I weren't at the dance for very long though. I hate rap music. I went back and joined the loners: Amy, Meredith, and Emily, who were dancing to thier own music. It was a lot of fun. We danced to Spice girls and 50's music. We later watched Life of Bryan. I like Holy Grail more.

Day 28

Today was a get-things-finished day, so most of us finished early and mulled around until Ben challenged Christian to Puzzle Fighter. We were all wondering why they didn't bring this game up earlier. We all crowded around and played until the gallery show began. There were some really amazing pieces of work in the gallery. Even though there were some technical issues with the animations, I think that people generally like what we did. I got everyone to sign my animation shirt, even Jon who wasn't there. People began trickling out and Steve abruptly left without saying goodbye, as usual. It got down to me, Amy, Amex, and the Tas just hanging around, none of us willing to take the first step out of the door. It was really depressing. When I got back, Molly had packed because she had to leave before the Sabbath started, which made me really sad because I have to stare at a bare mattress. Our prank this morning didn't seem to have as big of an effect as had hoped, but oh well. Oh yea, during dinner, Alex, Amy and me amused ourselves by having me flick pieces of meat at some snobbish looking kids below us. They noticed the second time and chucked back a cruton. I couldn't stop laughing.
After Molly left, I went to Christian's room where Alex, Ben, and Amy were playing puzzle fighter again. it was suum party.

Day 29 Leaving

The guys got us back by sticking condoms on our door knobs. I don't know how they did it because a group of girls on my hall were up all night. Apparently they also did it to the girls a floor above us cuz they didn't know exactly who it was. I had a late flight again so I had to be the one seeing people off as I stayed behind with my precollege buddies. We had lunch together and Emily played with some oranges. Meredith, Amy, and Emily saluted me and reenacted the scene from life of bryan where the people sing 'for he's a jolly good fellow..' to bryan. It was touching.
I met my dad at the airport and since we had a lot of time to kill, I took a nap. I woke up just in time to see Anna, my RC, walk by whcih was so very weird. She was going on her delayed family reunion trip. It was nice seeing someone from the program one last time. Well, thus ends my experience at Penn. I had to sum up the big points the would be:
1 PennCards must die
2 squirrels
3 summer programs are horrible because they wisk you away to freedom and then spit you back into reality before you realize what's happened.

END.

Day 21

I got up, pulled on some sweats and had Pajama Day in animation class. Maya's still giving me hell and Scott's lectures are becoming less helpful. I really want to model a person..After class, everyone except the TAs, Scott, and Leonora went to The Gallery to look for pirate clothing. We cleared out CVS's stock of eye patches and got bandanas at the dollar store. When we got back, me, Ben, Jon, Christian, and Amy listened to a physicist about String Theory. I vaguely remember Gary Oas from Relativity discrediting it (livii, ask Brenda). It would have been enjoyable had the chair not been so hard and the guy in the corner not been so loud and cocky. I hate it when ppl think they're so smart. I walked back to teh dorm with Amy and we came across Alex fully decked out in her pirate outfit. She immediately began thrusting her sword at us but to no avail because her eyepatch was skewing her vision. It was really fun to watch. I had a lot of time to kill because I didn't want to go to the 80's dance, which I later found out was crap because there wasn't any 80's music-not that I like 80's music either. I decided to get someone to go watch a movie with me instead and teh unfortunate sap was a half awake Amy-different Amy.
Here goes the set of events:
1. After finding out iRobot started in 10 minutes, I hustle Amy out of her room and close the door, unknowingly locking her key in. Problem, her roomate is gone for the weekend.
2. We run down to McClelland to get a spare key. By the time Amy gets her real key and returns McClelland's key, the movie has supposedly started.
3. We speed walk to the theater. Problem, we're speed walking int he wrong direction.
4. We finally get to the theater 20 minutes late, however, since it's late, I think that there won't be many people there.
5. The theater only takes cash. Problem, I don't have any cash as I am swamped with traveler's checks and useless credit card.
6. Amy pays for me, we go in and find the place is packed with people, mostly Black
7. We see that the entire front, for some reason is unoccupied, so we walk all the way down only to find that oh! it's blocked off. We must walk all the way back and the only 2 seats left are in a row that goes seat, broken seat, seat. We settle.
8. I think the movie is 1 hr 55 min. 30 min into the movie, the climax begins. I say wtf, sure why not. Then 30 min b4 I think the movie is supposed to end, people get up and leave, I didn't think they hated the movie that bad either, they were laughing at it's jokes and going ooh ahh. I say wtf? maybe it's a tour group at 12 AM. about 2 min after, the lights come on THEN the credits come on. ME: WTF if going on here??!
It was the craziest movie I had ever been to. iRobot could have been really good if it were longer. There wasn't much suspense because you knew what was going to happen. Lewis from Even Stevens was in the movie though, he was great.

Day 22 Saturday

I woke up late today. I was supposed to wake up around 10 but instead woke up 10 to 11. There was an informational session thing today so I scrambled out of bed, threw on clothes, did not brush my teed, and ran out the door. Fortunately though, I met a family right outside the quad that was looking for the meeting too. It was also very fortunate that I did not get lost. We made it just in time. The speaker said different stuff than other schools. She didn't say anything statistics wise but focused on Penn's programs and degrees. Penn's versatility is so amazing. The fact that Penn has all the courses that I want is making me wish I went here. She really scare us the end though when she said that our essay could "make or break" our admittance. One of the questions is "Why do you want ot come to Penn?" which is so incredibly horrible because you know they want you to come up with something clever. I bought an ACT book. I figure I won't do any better on the SATs so maybe the ACTs will give me better luck. So far my Eng. skills still stink up the place. Later, Shilpa and I checked out the Pottruck Fitness Center and played with huge bouncy balls on the topmost floor. Shilpa almost broke the ceiling lights. We then went to WaWa to get coffee that ppl said was better than Starbuck's I got vanilla cream-it was quite good. I let Shilpa use my water boiler for Ramen noodles, however, the only bowls I had were small paper ones so she had to use 3. The trouble began when Molly told Shilpa to add another bowl under her soup bowl because the paper was getting soft and soup was spilling out. Well, the extra bowl made soup spill out even more and us laughing did not help either. Soup spilled all over my desk and floor and we ended up using half a role of paper towels. After that ordeal, I spent the next two hrs making pirate hats for animation class and a sword out of newspaper for myself. I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail again and then made a belt with a hilt because I obviously need one. I am quite proud of my handiwork. I can't wait till monday, it's gonna be crazy.

Day 23

I woke up late AGAIN. I suddenly woke up and saw light outside and panic-stricken (and for some reason watch-less) I woke up Molly and asked groggily what time it was. She poited to her alarm clock and it was flashing last night's time. That's when we both started panicing. I looked at my cell phone and the time was 7:15, we were supposed to be downstairs by 7:30 for our NY trip. Molly didn't get to shower and we both ran around the room like beheaded chickens, throwing our clothes around. We got down in time but were definetely disheveled. We got nice charter buses this time and watched Good Will Hunting. Wehen we finally got to NY, the RC's gave us their phone #s and let us loose. I chose to see a Broadway play, so our group walked around Times Square until it started.
NY is such an interesting place. The ads are rediculously gigantic. Our group got split up in the
gigantic toy store, so Meredith, Liz and I wandered around by ourselves until the lunch place we wanted to eat at opened. I had tortellini. It was scrumptious. After that we started heading toward the Broadway theater. I was so excited cuz this was my first ever real play. We watched Assassins. It's about all the presidential assassins in US history and how they decided to shoot thier president. It was so good! The polish guy was really good, hell they were all good. I really want to watch Wicked now because Meredith's been talking about how great it is all the time. I'm listening to Wicked's soundtrack now and it really makes me want to SIIING!! I bought the original Assassins CD and we got back to our dorms just in time to watch the 4400. It was only an hr this week! man they keep changing it on us.

Day 24 Crazy Pirate Day

We had pirate day today. Not many boys participated but the girls certainly did. Alex of course was bouncing of the walls, we were so judged today during lunch, but a lot of people were joining in on our pirateness like saying ARR. SHMAACK! She tripped right at that moment. It was priceless. Sidnie told me that some guy was inspired to dress as a pirate which is so very cool. After lunch, as we were walking up the stairs, Alex remarked that everyone wished they were as cool as.... I love my animation class. Alex and Grace had an intense sword fight outside and the TAs were just laughing at us. We ARRR'ed the passersby. When I got back, I went to Urban Outfitters with Amy to get a skirt for our hall dinner at Boca de Beppo which resulted in me spending the rest of my traveler's check. That's $400 in 3 week. eek! Dinner was pretty god. Everyone got dolled up for it. Desert was Tiramisu with LOTS of liquor in it. Wow, I really hate the taste of alcohal, but there was something addicting about the tiramisu...
Afterwards, Amy and I had a camera fight where we tried to take as many candid/spontaneous/funny pictures of each other. I think I won because her camera was too slow. There was also this creepy guy who watched us in the window while we were taking a group picture...

I'm back!! here's more of the journal [28 Jul 2004|11:41am]
Day 12

Spent the entire day animating again. I had to walk back in the pouring rain. I watched the old Stepford Wives with Molly, Emily, Leonora, and, "Steph". It's such a weird movie and reminded me of Orwell's 1984. It also seemed anti-technology. The really scary part was when Joanna met her robot self and robot Joanna had black orbs for eyes. Later after Molly and I went back to our room, Someone knocked on our door and I thought they were girls that were going to play a prank but got the wrong room. It turned out it was Emily, Steph and Leonora in their semiformal dresses acting like Stepford wives. It was funny.

Day 13

We started stop-motion today. Stop motion is when you take a camera, shoot an object, move the object a smidgen and then shoot again. Everyone shot against a blue screen. We're working in groups now and we decided to make an animaiton about 2 clay ants having a sword fight. Our ants have symbolic meaning too. The red one is Communist. In order to figure out what a swordfight looked like, Leonora and I borrowed Pirates of the Caribbean and watched the swordfight between Will and Jack in slow motion and then sword fought ourselves with rolled up pieces of paper. Steve actually came to help us but then slipped away sometime later. It was a lot of fun. I'm almost done with my hand drawn animation that i've been working on non-stop for the past few days. ALMOST! I miss my friends.

Day 14

It's friday again, geez the week went by so fast. I finally finished my hand drawn animation! 250-some freakin drawings. It looks like I just stole a whole package of printer paper. Now I just have to finish my puppet animation. While my group was working on our clamating, the dean of the art department swung by and "really digged" our armatures which is definetely a plus. Wow I still need to visit the admissions office. I finally saw Spiderman 2! It kind of felt like being last to read HP5, but it was AWESOME! WOW I LOVED THAT MOVIE! it didn't have the cheesiness of the first movie, but seemed to parody a sort of hero/damsel in distress typle of movie. Spiderman is HOT!! I love the scenes when he's trapezing around the city. It was GOOD AND FUNNY, and I can't want for the 3rd one. Tomorrow's six flags. We had an interesting dinner at the 1920 commons here's the run down..
FOOD: *was gross*
ASIANS: *suddenly appear*
WE: *are confused*
COOKIES: *are swiped*
and I ended up with a lot of crumbs in my purse.

Day 15

We went to Six Flags today and rode lots of rolercoasters. The longest we stood in line was about 1 and a half hours for Robin in The Chiller. It was a lot of fun, but really hot. After six flags, I watched Much Ado About Nothing and Meredith, Emily and I made fun of how the guy couldn't cry and how Keanu Reeves couldn't act. Strangely there wree a lot of actors I recognized in the movie like the guy who plays Gilderoy Lockhart and the lady who plays Trelawney, Keanu Reeves, the beetlejuice guy, and the suicide guy from Dead Poet's Society. Right after, we proceeded to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail. t was the first time I had ever seen a full length Monty Python movie, so the night was filled with all sorts of off key humor. I heard AP scores have been mailed out. It's making me nervous b4ecause I did really bad on the free-response section of the Calc BC test and I can't say if the multiple choice section was any better. What really sucks is that only a 4 or a 5 really matter and I'm thinking I got 3's at best. Hopefully my dad will NOT open the letter but forward it to me like I asked. It would make me feel much less anxious.

Day 16

We went to eat Dim Sum in Chinatown today. It was interesting because all the chinese kids' parents weren't there so we had to fend for ourselves byt attempting to communicate with our crude chinese skills. The Dim Sum place had TVs in the corner of the room and it was like a cheap karaoke tape that had peaceful scenes and then young innocent looking girls wearing skimpy (but modest by US standards) clothing trying to seduce you. We figured these tapes were geared toward old men.
I did my laundry and bought an SAT II Writing book to try to study. Meredith, Moly and I watched The 4400 on USA. We had planned to watch it since we saw the commercials last week. It's really freaky. It's about these people who are returned to Earth after so many years and each person has a strange ability. We all thought it was a movie but it ended up being a miniseries! Damn, gotta wait till next Sunday. I got my AP scores. I just told my parents to get it over with. So here it is:
Calc BC:4
Calc AB:5
It's absof*ckinglutley amazing. I messed up on the majority fo the free response quesiton. I really feel sorry for those who got ones :/ I'm glad the suspense is over though.

Day 17

It monsoon rained ALL DAY. The sewers started flooding.
Philadelphia really has a terrible drainage system-kind of like Oregon's inefficient system for getting rid of snow. Everyone's feet were sopping wet. Molly hung her socks next to a crack in our window. I got a package of clothes from home today. Yay for clothes. I didn't get to eat dinner again because of the rain.

Day 18

Animation class is getting quite interesting. A new joke springs up everyday about our TA Brendan. Tomorow we're all dressing up like him to scare the crap out of him. He's going to be self-conscious for the rest of his life. Alex and I went to South city to find the necklace Brendan wears and we definetely found some. Man we're such dorks. All the girls are going to be wearing homestar shirts and none of the guys are going to know what the hell's going on. My group's ant animation is also becoming quite interesting. We added sounds and Pirates of hte Caribbean music which definetely saved the project. My shoe also makes a debut. I was supposed to pick up a package today but the damn packaging room closed early for no reason. I spent the rest of hte day looking at Amy's pictures of her asian friends and showing her EPGY pictures. AHH memories!

Day 19 Brendan/Bastille Day

I got up bright and early to get to the art building so we could get ready to transform into Brendans. When Maddie finally came, we hustled into the bathroom, whipped on red shirts and pinned on white stars. The necklace from yesterday and combing our hair to cover half our faces were the final touches. We then hurried back to our seats, much to the confusion of the boys. When Brendan finally came and noticed us, his respnse was that we were "creepy." Alex officially named today Brendan Day and Brendan noted that today was Bastille Day. Coincidentally the French National Anthem had been the joke of the class some time before. Therefore Brendan/Bastille Day was forever established as one of merriment.
There was a question and answer session today for the art students. We later had one just for our class. Scott was quite confusing in saying that big animation companies look for young undergrad students, but that we shouldn't worry abou having to choose what we wanted to do before we got into college. Basically animation is a lot more competitive than I thought. Conceptual design must be even harder. We watched Finding Nemo, a movie that I now much more appreciate. It monsoon -rained at night again.
However, by the time Emily, Molly, Leonora, Stephanie, and I decided to go out and get drenched, it stopped and we were left with puddles and a light drizzle.

Day 20

We started 3D animation with Maya today. Damn, that's such an annoying program! I couldn't figure out how to use it for the life of me. Usually I can just explore programs and learn them on my own, but Maya is so hard.I don't know why either! It's so frustrating. Anywya, during lunch, us animaiton freaks were discussing our future Pirate Day and going to buy pirate stuff (pirates of the caribbean music floats through my head). I made a hat out of a napkin and put it on my head...we had an interesting conversation about "being judged." eh, we were the coolest people in the hall, no worries. After doing my laundry, I hung out with Leonora surfing the internet, even though her desktop tells her not to.

Penn journal...again [12 Jul 2004|08:40am]
[ mood | groggy ]

Day 7- first friday

Class was the usual, except we had an hour long lecture by some of the teachers telling us about what they do and why they do it. They were all rather honest about thier work, which is both cool and disturbing at the same time. The ceramics teacher showed us a sculpture of a guy with a private part on his head, representing "aggression" ...or something. He also liked making rockets and mentioned in passing that the rockest also resembled such. I will never look at rockets the same way again. The drawing teacher also had a fascination with old porn and drawing obscene parts of the body like testicles and bladders..wtf? Later we went into the city and saw some galleries. There was one in particular that had the most amazing artwork. One guy paints SO detailed-ly it's mind boggling. The RCs just let us loose once we got into the city, kind of weird. Since tomorrow's the weekend, we had hall meeting at 12 AM. Who the f*ck thought of that? I fell asleep at 9 and they woke me up at 12 and threatened to make me dance in front of the group. I just wanted to sleep! Tomorrow we're going rafting and I am not looking forward to it.

Day 8

So, rafting was pretty fun today. The ppl who led us were really hot and I thought the main guy was like 20, turns out he's fifteen going on sixteen, eww gross. We were given buckets to throw water at each other and this one boat full of retard boys stole our bucket! so we got up close to thier boat and Karen jumped on in an attempt to get it back, but she failed and fell into the river. She eventually got onto another boat and caught up with us. I didn't get to finish lunch cuz my sandwich got soggy and I only ate one hot dog for dinner. When we got back the showers were all taken so I went to practive the piano on McClelland's crappy pianos for an hour. I came back and a group of ppl were going to the grocery store for dinnerl. Shilpa, Amy, and I got on a tangent and bought $50 worth of chips, salsa, and ice cream but I did get bagels and cream cheeze and ham, so I did get some sort of a dinner after all. And guess what?! My legs are soo sunburned. This is the first time I've ever gotten a sunburn. wow, it hurts. My legs look roasted...

Day 9 4th of July

There weren't any fireworks :( at least the only thing we could see were flashes of light, since curfew was at 8 for some reason..bastards. And the dance was really sucky-no. good. music. THere's also a lot more girls here than guys, or all the guys were hiding in their rooms. Earlier I tried to get people to play the "this is one, this is two" game, but no one seemed really interested. THey all thought it was annoying >:/ We also finally got to sit in the TV lounge. It's always occupied. Not much else to say besides that the dance sucked. There weren't even any slow songs for that matter. Everything was really mellow. Nobody knew how to break dance either. Oh yea, earlier, there was a waterballoon fight but I didn't get there in time. Lucky for me, when I got there, the people were bending down trying to pick up all the balloon pieces heheheh.

Day 10

We went to the bookstore today. I was picking out books that I thought Molly should read, and of course HP came to mind. She hasn't read any of the books, but has seen the 2nd movie, which doesn't leave a real good impression. So I'm trying to make her read the books even though she says she'll hate them grrr. I hate it when people pass judgement on things they don't know. Afterwards we and Amy took a cab to see The Notebook. It was such a sad and romantic movie. I had a hard time not crying. I never thought I'd be such a sap but I guess I am. *If only every girl had a guy like Noah* Shortly after we came back, Meredith played Pirates of the Caribbean int he lounge so there was a large gathering there. Molly said she didn't like that movie either, however, she did say she wanted to watch LOTR, finally a plus! I miss my fanatic friends..

Day 11

Spent the ENTIRE DAY doing animation

post comment

Penn journal continued... [10 Jul 2004|06:43pm]
Day 4

Today was my first full class. It's so much fun! I find that even though I get bored doing crude animations at home, I don't get bored here. Maybe it's because everyone else has such a passion for it. I haven't shaken from my bleak character designing dreams though. One girl in my class does really great ink drawings. We watched a morbid documentary today on a particular type of hand-drawn animation, where instead of drawing each frame, you draw, erase, and draw some more on the same paper. It almost made me fall asleep. The art building is now open after class too for about 3 hrs So I went in with Molly to get some work done on my puppet and in the process, skipped dinner. This prompted us to do some grocery shopping. We met up with our RC and some other girls from our hall on a mission to buy tampons and red food coloring heheheheh. I bought some bread and some muffins.

Day 5

We showed our animations today. My puppet seriously needs fixing. It's moving way too slow and fixing it is going to take a shitload of time. I feel rushed becasue we're starting hand-drawn animation tomorrow. I didn't go in after class to work on my puppet becasue Molly, Amy, and I went to see The Day After Tomorrow, which btw has a really hot guy in it. I read "15 min" parody of it before I saw the movie so I started laughing duirng some parts, but the parody was so true. I twas dark when we headed back and I spent the rest of dthe time thinking up stories for my animation. Oh yea, we also went to Urban Outfitters. I'd never been there before, but wow, I love that store, lot's of cute clothes!

Day 6

We started hand-drawn animation today. The Cappacillo from last night made me nauseous all morning. No more coffee for me. I ended up spending 9 hrs in the art building, geez, I might as well be getting paid. Our refridgerator also finally came. But of course it's this small, old, grimy thing that we're supposed to put food in. Besides this, there's not much else to say. This place is kind of boring, and the people are so clicky. Plus I can never find the ppl that I do know...I find myself longing for home more and more.

~~~Penn journal~~~ long post and incomplete [09 Jul 2004|08:33am]
[ mood | awake ]
Day 1 (6/26)
First day at Penn, wow our living space from the outside is gorgeous, it's like living in a castle, except for the inside. It seems like the builders forgot to finish what they started. AThe walls are all bare, the floor is stone cold, and there's nothing in our dorm room except the bare minimum i.e. mattress, desk, and chair that has a slant in the back 2 legs so when you can lean back, except it always feels like your falling out of your chair. We do however have a sink in our room which is quite interesting. My roomate's name is Molly. She's Jewish and at first reminded me of Avital and Ally mixed together. The three lady counselors all seem really nice and funny which is great. I can see now that this is going to be WAY different from EPGY. First of all, there's no common lounge, it's just a gigantic quad where all the people in the art, science, and precollege program can disperse themselves more. Did I mention there are a hell of a lot of people? Everyone's left on there own and there's no "nerd-pride" I dunno, I bet it'll get better. I'm trying not to compare this to EPGY-man time flies so fast.
My bed was the one on the left.
Day 2
Today we had a scavenger hunt, where the boy groups frantically tried to get the clues while the girls walked everywhere and observed scenery. Our hall ended up being 9 out of 11 which I suppose sucks but that's ok. The winner got hall money to spend on whatever. We had class orientations at 3 PM. The animation teacher seems really laid back and that's always a good sign. I wished he didn't talk so much and just showed us students' work the whole time. We also have the most guys in any of the art classes. There's only 11 people in the class so again, I don't feel so special (smart) that I got into the program like Stanford. There are 5 guys in our class, one of them being a TA who looks kind of like Squall from FF8. Yeah, I'm really excited for tomorrow. I did a whole bunch of stuff interspersed with my parents and brother like drive around/walk around and go to Penn's landing. They leave tomorrow. I hope my brother will be able to cope without me. At hall meeting a prank was announced. We're going to hang tampons everywhere i the guy floor below us. This is going to be great.
Day 3
First day of classes! But..I had to first wait in line to get my PennCard for 45 min. The PennCard gets you into everywhere, I don't know why the coordinators are so screwed up, I mean I e-mailed my picture to them 2X and they told me they got it, but today they said they didn't so I had to retake my pic. My roomate's position sucked more cuz she still has to go in tomorrow to get her card. Apparently she's not even enrolled :/ Augh! The good part of today was having class. I think that'll be the best part of the program (opposite to EPGY) I'm so excited for this class because everyone else is also excited to learn animation and of course some of the girls are into anime and final fantasy and ALL of them are into HP so I don't think there will be a problem between us. THe boys are still pretty amongst themselves too. I'm trying to animate a marionette and I got to use a wacom tablet for the first time! It's a lot harder than I thought but I think I'll get used it. I think this puppet of mine is going to turn out pretty cool. After class I was at a loss of what to do because there aren't any afternoon activities like at EPGY so I just walked to the library and then took a nap. I did find someone to play badminton with me but then some peoplw with a football kicked us out. D:< grrr.. That's it for today.
summer program [28 Jun 2004|05:26pm]
[ mood | nostalgic ]
[ music | Harry's Wondrous World ]
I'm at Penn's summer program for animation right now, I got in on the 26th and I'm going to record EVERYTHING this time. (I learned from EPGY) So far Penn is nothing like EPGY-there's no monopoly! Not to mention everyone else who was at EPGY. It's really bad that I'm comparing everything to EPGY. oh well, LIVII, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO? I'll post my journal stuff later
Chemistry [26 May 2004|09:15pm]
[ mood | rushed ]
I have made the decision to call my chemistry teacher Professor Snape for the rest of my life, not because he's mean or anthing, but because..well..he's the potions master! So far, he still chuckles whenever I call him Professor, but that will soon change! I swear, it'll get to the point where 'Professor Snape' will become his alter ego. My friend and I already have plans for him to wear a black wig on halloween, hang dried newts around the classroom, and use pewter cauldrons instead of beakers. Oh and she also suggested that we speak in British accents, but I don't think that's terribly necessary.
crisis [09 May 2004|11:23pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]
Geez, prom is so much work! I spent the entire day yesterday trying to find a stupid dress. I had been so excited for prom but the stress is now killing me, especially because I have the world's most unreasonable and uncompromising mother. She's trying to force me to wear her old shawls from who knows what age and use her purses that don't match with my dress. There's also no end to how I'm supposedly "loosing my innocence" because the dress reveals half of my back...oooh so scandalous, every fricken prom dress is like that but she won't listen. argh and i don't know where to get a flower. Geez, if it weren't for my aunt, I wouldn't even know I had to give the guy a flower. Both of my aunts say my dress is fine too. Holy hell how do I get out of this??
Prom [07 May 2004|12:26am]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | I have Everclear songs stuck in my head ]
Prom=Secret society of boys. Each boy is given one invitation to give to one girl who is allowed in for one night. It doesn't matter if the boy is tall, short, hot, ugly, nerd or jock, if that girl gets that invitation, she now has a reason to pretty herself up, buy that sparkly necklace, and become a princess for one night. If you don't get the invitation, you don't go to prom, because really, who wants to go to prom stag? You would have to tag along with a group entirely made up of couples except for you. Homecoming and Winter are different matters. Prom is the real thing. Thank God I got an invitation. Apparently Art Alexakis from the band Everclear is coming to our prom because of a pledge that our school apparently did. And apparently we got so many pledges that we were third in the nation for this pledge. I don't know how it happened, everybody I talked to didn't even know our school was doing this pledge, I sure didn't. But that doesn't matter, what matters is that this will be the first time I will see someone famous in person...
my GAWD. [27 Mar 2004|02:24pm]
[ mood | tired ]
do you remember me? anyway. start from the beginning, my name is olivia and i'm often called livii, liv or lilo by friends. lilo was a nickname i earned from a camp i attended this summer (stanford -epgy). there i met nancy and we rode on bikes together until we fell down because the bike only had one seat. soooo anyway we're all back in where we belong and this is our journal together :) (which i haven't been to for 3948204,000 years- sorry nancy!)
so... what's been happening lately in my life, well i wrote to you nancy sometime ago :) :) (um oops wait, like around january?) and on the 7th it was my 14th birthday. that was pretty fun, got lots of goodies plus hung around with a few friends. hmm, i visited a concert as well which was pretty good, absolutely vocal - choirs in our school sung it... then... we had to choose our classes next year in HIGH SCHOOL aaaahh the bigbadworld. so i chose....:
Geometry w/ Proof (assigned)
Humanities 9 (assigned)
Introduction to Physics and Chemistry (assigned)
PE 9 (assigned)
Humanities 9 / 2nd class (assigned)
FREE (assigned)
Introduction to Visual Arts
okay nevermind, i didn't choose any of them except for art. but my music teacher wants me to continue with band on the oboe... hmm... i don't want to practice though haha. so anyways, i quit it. anddddd..... i'm working on a poster right now for visual arts for the 'Worst Middle School Play in the world'. and it's looking pretty OK, but i can't decide what color to color the THE title. so, i have to concentrate and go and think of pretty rainbows. BYE!
background [11 Feb 2004|11:12pm]
[ mood | blank ]
yea, definetely going to change the background, though I don't know when... it looks too much like the gap t-shirts going around nowadays.
forcasting for next years classes have begun! and unlike most people who are dying to graduate, i'm very apprehensive about the coming of senior year, I will miss all my friends, *tear. Not to mention I don't know where I'm going to go. My parents don't want me to go to art school, but with my scores I'd be a REAL suprise if I got into any good school. I just don't want to end up at a party school, stupid people scare me, which reminds me, did anyone in the states see Larry King Live interview Anna Nicole Smith?? That was the worst interview I have ever seen. I was just channel surfing and then I saw a *big blonde person and I was like oh, Anna Nicole Smith...she lost weight?? Larry King asked her if she had a boyfriend, she said no, then he asked her if she was dating (um she just said she didn't have a bf), then he asked why she didn't have a bf and she said "oh, well it's just so hard, people sue me all the time, they like sue me all the time, and well..they sue me all the time!" People on the radio the next day said she was on drugs, but I honestly think she was pretty much herself. that's enough ranting about Anna Nicole Smith. I should go to bed
[ music | LOTR soundtrack stuck in my head ]
just got LOTR Two Towers *extended* version a few days ago, it's awesome i highly recomend it, though i'm still kind of mad that they made the plot different from the book, which suprised me cuz i thought peter jackson really wanted to make the movie true to the books and stuff, but none of you will know what i'm talking about unless you've read LOTR and are a nerd.
"..and that's all i have to say about that."
btw, i changed the website livii because yours doesn't work anymore :,(
GET IT FIXED!
